Review Of Athenanews

AthenaNews Review

If you visit the AthenaNews.com website, you will find the usual sponsored listing / related searches website, telling you that the domain is not in use anymore. Thankfully, their former website is still available through the archive.org so you may find information dating from the year 2001 at the latest. They were specializing in providing the high-quality newsgroup access at low prices to over 90.000 uncensored newsgroups. The daily download limit was 1GB for$5.95 per month. This means that you were able to download 30GB per month on average. The privacy was guaranteed since there was no logging of any personal details and downloads. Let us also mention that there was no any information about retention and completion on their official website.

Number of groups

It is interesting to notice that during their existence, the number of groups that were available through their servers varied. In 2001, 90,000 groups were available. In 2004, they claim to provide the access to “tens of thousands of groups”. Two years later, more than 160,000 groups were available. However, it is interesting to notice that in the following year, the number of groups decreased to 100,000.

Packages

The first package they offered, 1GB daily for $5.95 per month, remained unchanged until the 2004 when 2GB and 5GB were introduced, costing $9.95 and $19.95 per month respectively.

Recommendation

The AthenaNews are not active anymore, but according the 30GB per month for $5.95 sounded like a solid offer.
