Review Of Nntpjunkie
The NNTPjunkie is a premium usenet provider, operating and managing usenet groups and other Internet-related services for the last 10 years. The experience, combined with their willingness to focus on the customers’ requirements, allows them to deliver quality news service. They claim to pay attention to the most important aspects of usenet access; reliability, retention, completion and speed.Their network is receiving over 2000GB of new postings daily. Currently, they offer the access to more than 70,000 newsgroups.
Server information
They have one server farm located in the USA, available on the news.nntpjunkie.com address. Up to 32 concurrent connections are available, free SSL encryption is provided and the NNTPjunkie does not cap, restrict or throttle user’s connection speeds. Since they are supported by multiple OC-12 connections, they have „tons“of bandwidth available ensuring that the user will get the maximum speed provided by Internet service provider.
Retention and completion
The retention for binary groups is one year or 365 days. Although not stated directly, we suppose that the retention for text groups is at least the same or even better. The retention rates are being upgraded constantly. The article completion is 99%.
Pricing
We always like to see when the provider is offering free trial. This is exactly the case with NNTPjunkie. They offer one free trial account where the user has 1GB available and 14 days for testing purposes (we did see better trial offers, though). Further, all the packages provide free header downloads, unlimited postings and uploads, free e-mail boxes, newsgroup search engine, both web and NNTP access, “Carry forward” bandwidth and free download capacity. Currently, there are 3 metered and two unlimited options available. The listing of these options follows:
- Spot account: 3GB in the term of 3 days has the pricing of $3.95
- ByteSize: 3GB in the term of 6 months has the pricing of $12
- 30GB account: 30GB in the term of 1 month has the pricing of $9.95
- unlimited traffic for 1 month period cost $14.95, but if the user decides to use the service for 12 months, he or she will have to pay $149.95
It is good to know that there are no refunds (on one month accounts.) if the user decides to cancel the subscription and there are no refunds applied to unused capacity either. Unfortunately, they do not directly give us the information if they offer the refunds for semi-annual and annual options but it appears that they don’t.
Recommendation
The pricing and the options available are not bad at all and the retention rates are above average. Despite this, the potential subscriber is encouraged to seek around for better pricing.
