This provider is one of many who think that it is not important to update the website at least once a year. That is probably the reason why they did not update their website since 2006. Despite this, there is plenty of information available regarding their services so let’s skip right ahead into presenting the information the 99% of potential usenet subscribers would like to know.
Servers
There are number of options since there are many servers and ports available and considering the fact that, besides the “standard” server, they offer the “standard” server with SSL, dedicated posting server and dedicated posting server that supports SSL as well. The address of „standard“ server is news.octanews.com, available on standard port 119. Further, besides this port, there are number of alternative ports available: 80, 120, 443, 8000, 8010, 8080 and 9000. The „standard“ news server that supports SSL is available on snews.octanews.com and uses the port 563.
Dedicated posting server is available on the postnews.octanews.com and allows maximum of 2 connections. Dedicated posting server that supports SSL is available on spostnews.octanews.com, uses the port 563 and allows maximum of 2 connections as well.

The binary retention is currently 9 days and the retention rate for the text groups is 95 days. On the website, there is no information about completion rate.

Recommendation
We don’t like the fact that they didn’t update the website for the last 4 years. Further, the retention rates are very low and the pricing is not competitive.
