Plan / Price Offerings

The user can choose between paying through the credit card or through money order. The packages are the same in both cases, but the money order option is slightly less expensive, usually being cheaper between $0.5 and $1. The pricing plans are as follows:

  • 1.5 GB/day – $19.95/monthly – $55.95/quarterly – N/A/semmi-annual
  • 750 MB/day – $11.95/ monthly – $31.95/quarterly – $58.95/semmi-annual
  • 250 MB/day – $7.95/monthly – $21.95/quarterly – $39.95/semmi-annual

Connection Speeds / Server Locations

We don’t have any information about their connection speeds before they closed down.

There is only one server available, the farm is located in USA and the address of the server is news.onlynews.com.  The ports available are standard 119 and optional 7501.

Technical Notes

They claim that their servers carry all the available newsgroups, but that they will add a group if it doesn’t exist on their server for some reason and if the user requests so.

If the user reaches download limit, the account will be deactivated until the next day and the user will get the error message stating that the password is not accepted. In other words, the account will not be automatically upgraded. Further, on the website, it is nice to see the listing of newsreader clients with short description and screenshots. Naturally, the links are available as well. Both commercial and free newsreader clients are listed.

Quality of Service

Unfortunately, there is no information about either of these, not only on their website, but on the other usenet reviews websites as well.

Customer Service

OnlyNews has an email customer support.
