One of the most popular free newsreader clients listed on our site is SABnzbd, and there’s a reason for this. This client is dedicated to the downloading of binary files almost exclusively. A search isn’t integrated into the client, but the client integrates extremely well with the Firefox browser, and Chrome browser…with appropriate add-on’s.
The newsreader is internet based, but you do have to download the client software. And, not only does this client run on virtually OS, (Windows, Mac, Ubuntu, Kubuntu,) there are also mobile applications to control your SABnzbd from anywhere, on the most popular devices. There’s lots of support through their forums, e-mail etc., and, did we say, it’s free?

We can’t day enough about this free newsreader. The dedication to downloading in this client has been a boon to many, and a bane to very few. Just for an extreme example, we loaded SABnzbd into an XP machine running Firefox 7.0 and put the machine on a dial up internet connection, (stone ages, huh,) just to see the contrast in download speeds. In Firefox 7 the best speed we could achieve during a download was 6.0 k/sec. Using SABnzbd we were able to achieve top download speeds of around 30k/sec. An increase of 500%…talk about acceleration.
We’re working with the client on a good connection now, Using Windows 7 and Chrome, and will report further in the future about the performance of the client on a good connection in the near future. This a highly recommended client by us.
