Newscene doesn’t offer any free trial use for new members.
There are five options available:
We don’t know their connection speeds since we have not tested them, it is fairly safe to assume that they are just average. Regarding the servers, it appears that there is only one server farm located in the USA and the SSL encryption is not available. The server is available on the news.newscene.com address. If the user is experiencing problems, trace route from their server to user’s servers can be performed by entering tracert news-west.newscene.com into the command prompt.
No technical information is available on Newscene’s website.
We haven’t tested the services of Newscene, but according to them, they provide the retention that equals 26 days for the alt.* groups (including binaries) and there’s also information that the retention for non-alt.* (most text groups) equals 45 days. If you consider these retention times, maybe it would be better if we didn’t mention them at all. Oh, by the way, the actual retention depends on article volume and the latest information is dates from 3/18/2007.
The user can contact Newscene by email, fax, or mail. The mailing address is Newscene Usenet News Service, PO Box 45349, Omaha, NE 68145-0349. The fax number is 1 (402) 895-2637 and the e-mail addresses where the subscriber can send questions are sales@newscene.com and tech@newscene.com.
The pricing is definitely not competitive and the retention times are very low so we can hardly recommend their services. Pick from our list of the Best Usenet Providers instead.
