MarqueeHD Gets More Usenet Software

We don’t usually review Media Centers, but when one gets Usenet related clients, or other stuff, we just have to tell you about it. Marquee recently added the SABnzbd client to their latest media player, but the developers let it slip that they were testing the Newshosting newsreader on the media player. We’re guessing that Popcorn Hour’s adding in of their latest Usenet client upped the ante, and the boys at MarqueeHD got in on the game. On their website they have screenshots of the SABnzbd client being run on their media center, but we couldn’t find any of the rumored snapshots of the Newshosting client.

A Little About The Hardware

  • NVIDEA supplied a GeForce 8400 video adapter.
  • It has an Intel Core i3 Sandy Bridge 3.1 GHz processor.
  • RAM is at 4 GB, but can go as high as 16 GB.
  • 2 TB Hard Disk
  • b/g/n/ Wifi,and a Gigabit Ethernet port.
  • 4 SATA ports, 8 USB ports, and video comes via the HDMI, DVI, or VGA ports.
  • One of the coolest looking mouses I have ever seen, the Loop, by Hilcrest Labs.

Now Some About The Software

This comes loaded with a lot of media oriented stuff, so if we don’t list it here you can find it on their website. The whole package is run off Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat. That is in the 64 bit flavor. It has Firefox 4.0, Amazon Video, Amazon MP3, Boxee, Hulu Desktop, Transmission, (for Torrents,) Sabnzbd, and a Usenet newsreader, (the fabled Newshosting client we hope.)

If you don’t know about the Newshosting newsreader client, it has all the latest things a Usenet surfer could want. It has unpacking of RAR’s and PAR’s, SSL encryption, built in search, filtering you can customize, and a lot of other features. If you don’t know then you need to go check it out on our Newshosting Client Review.
